Tips and Ettiquette
Tips for Holiday Cards
Holiday cards should be announcements that are true expressions of yourself
and your family. It's a way of wishing friends and loved ones happiness
during the holiday season. Our main emphasis in holiday cards has been
photo cards, which consist of a printed photo, color or black and white,
with a holiday message that can be personalized to your taste. Holiday
Photo cards serve the dual purpose of wishing your friends and family
every good thing plus leaving them a photo that they can enjoy year round.
It is appropriate for cards to arrive right up until the holiday being
celebrated. Update your holiday greeting cards and list once a year. Be
careful with friends or relatives who have experienced life changes such
as a marriage, commitment, divorce or a death in the family and address
cards accordingly.
Tips for Wording
Following are suggestions that may help you when wording invitations
or cards...
When titles are used, the husband's title always comes first:
Doctor and Mrs. Gregory T. Hall
Dr. and Mrs. Gregory T. Hall
Judge and Mrs. Gregory T. Hall
Without titles, the wife's name should come first:
Erica and John Johnson
NOT John and Erica Johnson
When children's names are added, the order should be as follows:
father's name, wife's name, children's names according to age (oldest
first):
The John Smith Family or John, Anne, Arthur and Linda Smith
In using Jr., III, etc. (a comma should always precede):
George L. Benach, Jr. or George L. Benach, junior
John Charles Smith, III
(Note: When used within a series of names, Jr. is not separated from name
by a comma, unless the individual is the youngest and appears last.)
For a Widow or Married Woman:
Mrs. Norman Bennett or Ellen Bennett
Use of Plurals:
When names end in CH, SH, S, X, or Z add "es"
Adams = Adamses
Wilcox = Wilcoxes
Mendez = Mendezes
Church = Churches
Hash = Hashes
All other surnames are pluralized by adding s.
If you do not wish to add ES to your last name, i.e. the JONESES, you
can use the word FAMILY:
THE JONES FAMILY
Never use an apostrophe in pluralizing surnames, unless to show ownership.
THE McARTHURS (plural)
MARY PIERCE'S BEACH HOUSE (Singular)
THE BENSONS' HOME (Plural)
